Charades EP#1

If we had to pick a single band that truly embodies pop à l’espagnole, Charades would probably take the top spot. These guys are continuing a tradition that began with mythical groups Le Mans and La Buena Vida; that of girls singing sunny pop sweetly and energetically, backed by guitars and a touch of synthesizer. In short: we wanted to film them.

Apparently they wanted to see us too—to come meet us, they drove from Madrid, stuffed in a car for five hours to meet us in Barcelona. We met in the Rabal neighborhood on a sunny Sunday without much to guide us: some aimless wandering, incessant construction noise and passersby who couldn’t help but stop and watch when the two singing girls started singing their playful exchanges.

They’re three girls and two guys who, with the lightest of music, succeeded in bringing out the laziness in a city more inclined to keep moving. We couldn’t have represented Barcelona any better, and we couldn’t have found a better way to start this series.
