Friends In China EP#3

Sometimes a misunderstanding can lead to something unpredictably great. The three guys from Friends in China participated in our contest where we had people send in their favorite local bands. Their suggestion? Their own MySpace page. We decided to give it a go. We met up at Camden Lock the night of the Brazil-North Korea match, and not a soul was left outdoors. So we make our grand entrance into a pub… or at least we tried.

The street crossing was a bit perilous, and our entrance into the pub was marked by the amused roar of the clientele. We had found a little courtyard in the back, but didn’t really feel like asking for any kind of permission. Either it works or it doesn’t, but it’s Camden—come on. But
apparently we were delusional. The owner comes rushing out, visibly fuming, and demands that Friends in China stop playing, and seeing that Thomas didn’t stop filming, stuck his hand over the lens. And curtain. We’re quickly ushered back onto the street, chased out into a
cloud of insults.

We still had Camden Lock’s passageways to navigate and a couple of enthusiastic young ladies who waved at and encouraged the guys in the band without ever putting down their cell phones. Tonight, this was Friends in China: three guys, a twenty-year old girl, the two
French brothers Mattia and Elie, Ally the Englishman, three guitars, two or three voices and an infectious desire to play around.
