Summer Camp

Summer Camp EP#1

by la Blogothèque, on 27/07/2010 share

We knew Jeremy Warmsley well as a skinny, timid musician (and quite adorable, too) who loved to write songs that were a little big for him and then sing them with like he really meant them. We know that more recently he’s been working on a project with a girl we didn’t know
named Elisabeth. Their band was called Summer Camp. A few demo tracks were available online, displaying summery pop covered with a light coat of synth touches and melodies that could stick in your head for days at a time.

Elisabeth was smiling, joking and sometimes mischievous, and her liveliness slowly pulled Jeremy out of his shyness. And before they had played so much as a single note, we could see between them a real bond, a sense of effortless interdependence. After some rehearsal in the garden of their studio marred by the rumblings of a big blond guy who was in what must have been his second drum lesson ever, we decided to head to Camden. The market, ordinarily buzzing with tourists and teenagers looking for goth-lite accessories, was closed and totally deserted. Jeremy strummed a couple of chords and Elisabeth began to sing, and together they stunned us: Liz’s voice had a beauty and
power that we would never have guessed from just listening to their demo. Raw, sincere, overwhelming. “Was it worth it?” the song asks. Without a doubt.
